At the end of a face-to-face interview, you are often asked: Do you have any questions for us? Having prepared such questions before your interview, enables you to make sure the place of work and the job are right for you – but also to show the recruiter that you are well prepared, interested, and the right person for the job! This article gives you suggestions for five topics to ask about during an interview and a collection of questions you can ask.

⭐ Tips for asking questions:

  • Base your questions on information you found on the company's website or in the job ad.
  • Only ask questions that have not already come up during the face-to-face interview.
  • Ask questions that are relevant to you and to the job you are applying for.

1. Ask about your future boss

A good manager or team lead will cater for your learning and development at your place of work, as well as guide you to successful work performance. It is therefore good for you to know who the manager or team lead for the job is, and how s/he operates.

➔ Who is the team lead or direct manager for this job?

➔ Could you tell me a little about the manager or team lead?

2. Ask about the work environment, culture, and values

This questions can be used to investigate whether or not you will enjoy the workplace, as well as to show interest in the company.

➔ How is the climate in the working group?

➔ What is the best thing about working here?

➔ Will there be opportunities to develop in the role or the company?

➔ I read on the website about your values, could you tell me a little more about them?

3. Ask about the role

If you have further questions about the job role, the face-to-face interview is a good time to ask those questions. Asking questions about the role also shows that you are interested and want to do a good job.

➔ What challenges are there in this work?

➔ What is the most fun about this job role?

➔ What projects are coming up?

➔ Could you tell me about a typical work day?

4. Ask about any uncertainties

Ask the recruiter at the end of the face-to-face interview if there is anything unclear about their understanding of you as a candidate for the job. In doing so, you improve your chances of getting hired.

➔ Is there something about me that you want to know more about, or that you want me to clarify, before we finish?

5. Ask about the recruitment process

By asking about the rest of the recruitment process, you encourage recruiter feedback in an implicit and pleasant way. You also clearly demonstrate that you are still interested in the role. Moreover, if you know more about the next step(s) in the process, you can prepare yourself practically and mentally.

➔ What is the next step in the recruitment process?

➔ When would you like me to start?

Best of luck on your face-to-face interview!
